Northwood and Washington Lutheran Church

The Ministry of the Northwood + Washington Lutheran Parish is to invite people into a relationship with Jesus; teach them to use their faith in daily living; and empower them with compassion to serve all God’s people.

We are a welcoming community – recognizing there are differences among us, we love unconditionally! We take seriously what Jesus commands us, "Love your neighbor".

Pastor Steve DeKrey

Vicar Steve Dekrey

Vicar Steve Dekrey

Hi there!
My name is Steve DeKrey, and I am the Pastor of the Northwood/Washington parish. I received my Master of Divinity degree from Luther Seminary in St. Paul Minnesota.

I live in Grand Forks with my wife, Emilie, daughter, Aeryn and our two dogs River and Nellie.

When I am not at the church, I enjoy playing video games and boardgames with my family, watching any good sci fi, animated or fantasy series on the many different streaming services that exist, or running games of Dungeons and Dragons for my family and friends.

My family and I are huge fans of the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Twins. We are also huge hockey fans always cheering on UND! My favorite hockey team is the Chicago Blackhawks, but you will likely see me sporting hockey sweaters from many different teams just because I think they look cool.

My background and emphasis at seminary was youth ministry, and I am always looking at ways for the church to change and adapt to better serve groups of people and communities that live very different lives than when our churches were first established.

I am very invested in how a message of grace and forgiveness for all of God’s people runs counter to the way the world works. As a church called by God, we are to be concerned for the least of these as Jesus taught, and that no one is beyond God’s love.
